Brandy Cavalli (also known as Brandy “Bee” Cavalli) is an Atlanta-based entrepreneur, writer, and marketer.
We caught up with the rising fem-preneur for a quick chat about her past and upcoming projects.
Hello Brandy! Thank you for taking time to chat with me today. Welcome to Women in Business. What made you get into business?
Thank you! I am so happy to chat. I got into business at a young age but it took me a few years to get serious and make it a legitimate career.
I have to credit my mother who is a very good business woman for instilling a business model and to be honest, I have never been a good singer so I figured I would learn the business. My biological father has also worked in the music industry since before I was born, eventually working himself up to an executive level so business is in my genes I guess.
Coming from an entertainment background, a lot of women promote beauty and fashion brands. What made you start a marketing network group?
Marketing came naturally for me because I have always been a strong seller. I chose to enter the workforce after high school so I had to hustle harder than someone with a degree which inadvertently resulted in me landing a A&R job with a music distributor. I worked there for about 8 years marketing and developing artists. Eventually I went to school for sports and entertainment marketing. I wanted a more formal education in the field.
I started the networking group in college to connect with other young professionals and entrepreneurs.
You worked in music in the early 2000’s right before internet streaming and social media was the main marketing tool. How has marketing changed?
It’s changed tremendously since my days in the music industry. Back in my day we promoted artists the long way by hitting the road and going on promo tours. We created hands on marketing campaigns like posters and promotional one sheets. I remember sending out thousands of one sheet promo pages by fax when a new project would hit. Back then when my artists did radio promo tours, I was at the shows and always on the road from small country town to town pounding the pavement. We coordinated promo teams who hit the streets and put out flyers, handed out CDs. It was definitely harder labor work than today’s digital marketing era but it was so rewarding when you created a hit.
I watched so many artists from Jeezy to Pastor Troy blow up organically.
What was some of your biggest projects?
I have worked with tons of artists but one of my biggest projects would probably be Ludacris. He is also one of the coolest. I actually got my first plaque from my work on his independent debut album Incognegro.
Now that you have transitioned from the music industry to having successful careers in logistics and construction project management, how do you enjoy corporate life?
It’s different. I enjoy the flexibility of the entertainment industry and the structure of corporate culture. I have luckily been able to navigate the corporate landscape fairly successfully but I credit my hustle. If you’re a hard worker I believe you can make anything shake. Just keep showing up and keep giving it hell eventually someone will notice.
I’m slowly transitioning my way back into entertainment. I’ve been missing the lights, cameras and action but I can’t deny the wealth of knowledge I have freely gained from the corporate world. I was lucky to get paid to learn what a lot of people have to go to school for. I’m just soaking it all in and honing my business skills so when it’s time, I can take them with me.
What’s a new brand you would like to see blow up?
RICHWIFE clothing brand is a dope new brand that I can’t wait to see expand. I love everything about it from the name to the branding campaigns to the actual product.
I also love Biatch tequila brand which has been out a few years. The product and packaging are both superb. The tequila is some of the best I have ever had.
I want to follow more female urban brands. I love bold branding and visuals.
What’s next for Brandy?
Right now I’m working hard to self publish my first book and continue to grow my viewing audience. I am open to collaborating with other writers and bloggers and maybe doing some podcasting.
Eventually I would like to produce my own documentaries. I really enjoy the true crime genre. My true crime blog is now officially worldwide with readers checking in from so many different countries, some of which I have never heard of. I am so thankful for that because I started with one reader, me. Now I actually make money from blogging and it allows me to generate passive income.
I am also hoping to expand the Social Entrepreneurs network. I’m very proud of the growth as we now have affiliates internationally in various industries such as entertainment, healthcare, travel and real estate. I believe networking is critical to successful businesses and brands and I’m big on cross promoting and word of mouth marketing.
Besides right here at The Social Entrepreneurs blog, where can you be found?
I can be found at ThePenHustler.com reporting on some of today’s wildest crime stories. I’m on social media sometimes. I have IG and Facebook: kingbeecavalli.
I am looking to collab with other bloggers and writers. Hit me up @ features@thepenhustler.com and let’s collaborate.
